Oneg and Temple Set-up
Congregant Oneg Instructions
Dear Congregant,
A little Nosh...A little Schmooz...Catch up on the news.... Break some Challah.... Drink some
wine...Take your turn hosting a Oneg Shabbat! It is a fun long lasting tradition!
Enclosed you will find a scheduled calendar of Oneg hosts for 2009. Your name was randomly selected
for one Oneg and at least one set up (if you are physically capable). Please mark your calendars now!
If the date selected for you does not work, please look at the calendar and arrange with another
congregant to switch dates. THEN... please call Mindi Newman (keeper of the Onegs) at 240-0436 to
let her know about the changes of dates. Also, if, for some reason, you choose not to host an Oneg or set
up, please call Mindi to let her know so she can be sure that your date can be reassigned.
For Saturday Services, you will NEED to bring a Challah, a bottle of kosher wine, apple juice or white
grape juice, and other food items of your choice. Cakes, cookies, fruit, vegetables, dips, bagels, and
cheeses are often served. Some people bring tuna salad, egg salad, green salads, etc. Please do not mix
meat and dairy in your selections. If there is enough wine and/or juice in the refrigerator, please leave
your bottles unopened for a future event. You can usually expect approximately 15-20 people. The
service begins at 10:00 a.m. The Oneg is served at approximately Noon. A good set-up time is right
after the Torah Service. Please plan on staying until after the Oneg to be sure that the Fireside Room and
the kitchen are cleaned up.
For Friday Services, you will NEED to bring a Challah, a bottle of kosher wine, apple juice or white
grape juice. Cakes, cookies, and other snacks are often served. If there is enough wine and/or juice in
the refrigerator, please leave your bottles unopened for a future event. You can usually expect
approximately 20-25 people. The service begins at 7:30 p.m. The Oneg is served at approximately
9:00pm. A good set-up time is right before the Service. Please plan on staying until after the Oneg to be
sure that the Fireside Room and the kitchen are cleaned up.
Napkins, cups, plates, serving trays and silverware are available at the synagogue. Someone is always
there to assist you in setting up.
Starting in January we are asking our member families to set up and take down our synagogue once or
twice during the year that will coordinate with your date to host the Oneg Shabbat. A lock box with the
set of keys needed to open the doors of the sanctuary will be by the front door of the building. Once
inside, unlock the office door (second door on the left). In the large gray cabinet you will find the set up
and tear down instructions. The step by step illustrated instructions will guide you through the procedure
for setting up before services and tearing down afterwards. The schedule below includes a list of Board
and other members who are familiar with the procedures and will be happy to address any questions or
concerns you may have.
Thank you in advance for you assistance in the smooth running of our Shabbat Services. It is truly a
Mitzvah!
Shalom,
The Board of Trustees
